After meeting Colin we made our way back into the Jungle to start our Advanced Jungle Training, aka, survival training. We made camp in an untouched piece of Jungle that Marcos, our ex SAS survival instructor owns. He taught us how to build animal traps and shelters and after a day practicing we were individually unleashed upon the Jungle for 2 days and 2 nights alone with just our Belt Kits and Machetes. Ralph came face to face with a Kinkaju on the first night, Peter smoked himself out with a termite nest and Myles was convinced an elephant was walking noisily around his camp on the last night. Surprisingly, however, the test went very smoothly - nobody got wet on the first night when it rained, nobody had any scary encounters with animals and nobody had any problems with their fires. All the shelters were well made, although there were different styles with Pete opting for a skyscraper design that required a ladder to get into, all the beds stood up to the test and, more importantly, all of our traps were so good that we all earnt extra food on the last night – Baked Beans for Peter, eggs for Myles and corned beef for Ralph. We left early after the 2 night all with fond memories of the experience – combined with the Cave Rescue it had been a great week.
