Our final day on trek was probably our fastest, with the first two day’s trekking completed in less than a day.
The group scythed through the fern forest, over the flood plains and back up Boulder Pass before even properly waking up. With just the final long descent through the valley and maze of paddy fields to Pa’ Ukat; the group truly opened up their legs and their lungs with some hearty power ballads emanating from Oz and Rian.
Emerging from the dark and humid jungle into the sunshine of the Pa’Ukat paddy fields was like a kind of jungle re-birth and soon we reached the finish line half-way down the road to Bario.
Despite Captain Bob’s desire to walk all the way back to Bario (and probably England if time had permitted), we fell exhausted and happy into the 4x4 back to Bario – stopping only to buy 14 pineapples and roughly the same number of bottles of whiskey.
